The foliage of the variety develops characteristically long arching sword like leaves which are predominantly deep purple, and they develop into a reddish colour around autumn. During long summers they may produce clusters of burgundy flowers on tall erect stems. This plant prefers well drained soil and fully sunny positions in the garden, but can tolerate partially shaded areas also, it
